Rebecca’s passion for Occupational Therapy and specifically Sensory Integration first developed when she volunteered as a swimming coach at a special needs school in Dubai. She saw the great impact that Occupational Therapy had on the children there and knew that this was the career she wanted to pursue.

Rebecca has worked in private practice in the area of Sensory Integration since completing her studies at the University of Cape Town and her community service year in the rural Northern Cape. Working in private practice has given Rebecca the opportunity to establish strong therapeutic relationships with the children and families that she works with. This is something Rebecca is grateful for and that she places great value on.

Rebecca’s special interests lie in early intervention (children between two and five), as well as the Autism Spectrum. Rebecca is a Makaton communicator.

Rebecca is the practice manager for Tokai Occupational Therapy and she enjoys the process of ensuring that the practice remains well equipped and able to provide a range of exciting therapeutic play opportunities.

Continued professional development is especially important for Rebecca and she attends regular courses in order to ensure that her practice is up to date on the latest research and techniques.

Rebecca belongs to the following professional associations:

  • The Occupational Therapy Association of South Africa
  • The South African Institute for Sensory Integration

Nazneen became interested in Occupational Therapy through her experience growing up with a family member with special needs. Her experience gives her a unique understanding of incorporating therapeutic strategies into the home environment.

She has worked in the field of paediatrics since completing her studies at the University of The Western Cape and her community service year in the Northern Cape. She has worked at schools for children with special education needs in the Western Cape as well as in independent private practice.

Nazneen developed her interest in sensory integration while working at international paediatric therapy centres in China. Her time at these centres gave her the opportunity to work alongside paediatric therapists from across the world. Overall Nazneen’s experience has made her grateful for her role as an Occupational Therapist. A role which she has seen to be incredibly powerful, no matter the background of the child.

Nazneen has a special interest working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorders and children that present with difficulties in feeding and eating. She is trained in the Sequential Oral Sensory (SOS) Approach to feeding therapy which she incorporates into Occupational Therapy intervention.

Continuous growth as a therapist is especially important to Nazneen and she regularly attends courses in order to ensure that her practice is up to date on the latest research and techniques.
